Job Requirements

School Coordinator Duties:

  • To assist patient’s/families in maintaining a child's enrollment in school and provide support for school curriculum.
  • Provides educational support through 1:1 session or in the TCH school classroom. This educational support is based on the students’ current curriculum, Individualized education Plan (IEP) plan or Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD).
  • Collaborates with families to enhance understanding and navigate school protocols to ensure students can either enroll in HISD or stay enrolled in their district.
  • Uses resources to create innovative lesson plans for students to learn in a hospital environment.
  • Tracks school service interventions and documents time spent and educational goals achieved for patients throughout Texas Children’s, regardless of enrollment.
  • Supports students through open lab and 1:1 bedside support.
  • This position would support the educational needs of inpatients including but not limited to:
    • timely enrollment in the HISD Hospital School
    • engagement in the Hospital’s Patient Tutoring Program with individualized lesson plans for the tutors to deploy
    • instructional support for lessons provided by the patient’s primary school setting

 

School Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of Texas school curriculum and a basic understanding of Texas Education Agency guidelines for public education.
  • Ability to provide teaching assistance to students in primary and secondary school using Texas mandated curriculum.
  • Ability to coordinate with patient/ families and multiple school systems to support a child’s education. Able to adapt school services to meet IEP plans or other special education needs.
  • Able to assist patients in coping with stress of hospitalization, and to interact with patients, families, volunteer staff, and heathcare team.

Education:

  • Required bachelor’s degree
  • Required TSTC – Texas Standard Teaching Cert – Texas Education Agency

 

Specific qualifications for School Coordinator role include:

 

  • Minimum 1 years of School Coordinator experience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-risk environment
  • Must meet Pulse Staffing’s hiring criteria
