Nurse Practitioner (Hospital Setting)
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide advanced clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in a hospital environment. They will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage both inpatient and outpatient care, contribute to discharge planning, and ensure a high standard of patient outcomes. The NP will also educate patients and their families, assist with preventative care, and perform various procedures as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
Conduct thorough physical exams, take medical histories, and evaluate patients’ overall health.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging) to assess patient conditions.
Diagnose acute and chronic conditions and develop individualized treatment plans.
Patient Management and Treatment:
Prescribe medications and other treatments, including therapies and interventions, as per clinical guidelines.
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
Perform minor procedures (e.g., wound care, suturing, central line placement).
Collaboration:
Work closely with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers in the development and execution of patient care plans.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case discussions.
Communicate with families regarding patient care, treatment plans, and progress.
Provide education on disease prevention, management of chronic conditions, and lifestyle modifications.
Assist with discharge planning, ensuring patients understand their care instructions and follow-up requirements.
Documentation and Compliance:
Document patient care, treatment, and progress notes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, policies, and legal/regulatory requirements.
Continuing Education:
Stay current on medical advances, best practices, and relevant certifications.
Participate in professional development activities, including continuing education and conferences.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) with certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP).
Active state RN and NP licensure.
Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., Acute Care, Family, Adult-Gerontology).
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Previous hospital or inpatient experience.
Experience in a specific clinical specialty (e.g., cardiology, oncology, pediatrics).
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR/EMR).
