Pulse Staffing is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Technologist to join a leading healthcare organization. Responsibilities  Laboratory Testing & Patient Care

  • Perform routine, complex, and specialized laboratory testing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Verify specimen integrity, patient identification, and test orders prior to processing.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, recognizing abnormal findings and initiating appropriate troubleshooting procedures.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of routine, STAT, and emergency testing.
  • Provide age-appropriate testing and accurately report results using established reference ranges.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and enter patient results into the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Communicate critical values, specimen issues, and quality concerns promptly to supervisors and healthcare providers.
  • Assist colleagues with specimen troubleshooting and workload management to maintain turnaround times.

Quality Assurance & Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform and document daily quality control procedures in accordance with laboratory standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and performance verification of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Monitor refrigerators, freezers, and laboratory equipment to ensure compliance with temperature and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and reagent issues and escalate concerns to leadership as appropriate.
  • Participate in validation of new instruments, procedures, and laboratory processes.
  • Maintain accurate quality control, maintenance, and regulatory documentation.

Inventory Management

  • Monitor laboratory inventory and order supplies to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Inspect incoming supplies and reagents for quality and expiration dates.
  • Remove and properly dispose of expired, damaged, or unsuitable materials in accordance with laboratory policies.

Education & Team Collaboration

  • Train and mentor new employees, students, and laboratory staff.
  • Participate in continuing education, competency assessments, and departmental in-service programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and fellow laboratory professionals to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment while maintaining excellent communication and professionalism.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead or charge technologist in the absence of supervisory staff when assigned.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, OSHA regulations, CAP/CLIA standards, infection prevention guidelines, and all laboratory safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.

Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
  • Current certification as an MLS (ASCP)MT (ASCP)AMT, or equivalent preferred (or as required by state regulations).
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, instrumentation, quality control, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience performing testing in one or more laboratory disciplines, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Blood Bank, or Immunology.
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and computerized documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
