Job Description
Position Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing essential healthcare services to students across multiple school locations in the Houston area. This position will conduct student physicals, administer basic medical care, maintain student health records, and collaborate with school staff and parents to ensure student well-being. This role requires regular travel between school sites and the ability to adapt to different educational environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Physicals and Preventative Care
- Perform routine physical examinations, including vision and hearing screenings.
- Verify immunization records and ensure compliance with state and school health regulations.
- Assess and address student health concerns and provide referrals as needed.
Healthcare Services
- Administer first aid and treat minor injuries and illnesses.
- Document chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and severe allergies.
- Document prescribed medications per school policies and physician guidelines.
Health Records and Compliance
- Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
- Update medical histories and immunization records as required.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student health concerns.
- Provide health education and training to students, staff, and parents on wellness and safety topics.
- Develop and implement individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions.
- Refer students to healthcare providers when further medical attention is necessary.
School Health and Safety Initiatives
- Assist in the development and enforcement of school health policies and procedures.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care.
- Promote a safe school environment by implementing health and wellness initiatives.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) with a valid Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification.
- Licensure: Active Nurse Practitioner license in Texas.
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid certification.
NP License, BLS, (AHA Only), PPD, TB, TB Questionnaire, COVID (any date),MMR, TDap, Hep B, Varicella and Flu vaccinations.
- Experience:
o Minimum 2 years of clinical experience.
o Experience working with children and adolescents in an educational or clinical environment is highly desirable.
- Skills and Abilities:
o Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to work independently and manage multiple school locations.
o Proficiency in maintaining and handling confidential health records.
o Knowledge of public health regulations and school health policies.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Frequent travel between school locations within the Houston area is required.
- Work is performed in a school-based clinical environment with interactions with students, parents, and staff.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and assist students with mobility needs.
- May be required to lift or move medical equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.

- Work Schedule: Based on location needs. Day shift only
- Compensation: $65 per hour
- Travel Requirement: Must have reliable transportation to travel to assigned school locations within the Houston area.
