Specific qualifications for this Pharmacy Technician role include:

Task #1: Assists the pharmacist in ensuring the appropriateness of all medication doses by correctly entering patient s diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area in the computer.
Responsibility B: Ensures adequate inventory
Task #1: Receives and processes pharmaceutical and supply shipments.
Responsibility C: Follows proper distribution/delivery procedures
Task #1: Ensures the doses are delivered within established departmental time-frame standards.
Responsibility D: Documentation and Education
Task #1: Completes and documents Daily and Monthly Activity checklists including expired drug checking, cleaning assignments, and ordering supplies and forms.
Task #2: Maintains investigational drug records according to departmental policy.
Responsibility F: Communicates with others
Task #1: Keeps immediate supervisor informed operations.
Responsibility G: Performs essential functions in the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy
Task #1: Ensures medications/prescriptions are processed and delivered within department time frame standards.
Responsibility H Performs other essential functions in Compounding and Repackaging
Responsibility I: Performs Other Essential Pharmacy Support Services Functions
Task #1: Participates in the interim and annual physical inventories, including audit counts, extension procedures, and auditing of inventory reports.
Responsibility J: Performs other essential functions in the Controlled Substances Area
Responsibility K: Performs essential functions in the Investigational Drug Service area


Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a knowledge of current hospital and departmental standards for the handling of pharmaceuticals. Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is good math, reading, and communication skills. Incumbent must be able to operate equipment used in the preparation of sterile products.


The formal education and/or experience required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is as follows:
Registration with the State Board of Pharmacy to work as a technician in Texas
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Required Experience:
Two years of pharmacy technician experience
40 hours of training in compounding sterile products (preferred)
Completion of a 40-hour course sponsored by an ACPE-accredited provider
Completion of a 40-hour training program which is accredited by ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists)
