Job Requirements

We are looking for CVOR CST who combine a true passion for providing the best Operating Room care, with a demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation and compliance with nursing care and policies and procedures. In addition, you should be team-oriented and compassionate professional committed to always providing exceptional service. It is also important that you are highly organized and that you demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work well with a diverse population.

Cardiovascular Operating Room Certified Surgical Technologist Duties

• Intra-operatively displays skills and behavior conducive to desirable outcome.
• Assists as needed in coordinating patient care Peri-operatively and assumes responsibility and accountability for behavior to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
• Assists in providing Peri-operative care for a patient population that includes Infants, Pediatrics, Adults, and Geriatrics. Preoperatively assists R.N. circulator in formulating plan of care.
• Post-operatively follows proper procedures for care of instruments, supplies and equipment. Under supervision, assists RN circulator with post-operative duties.
• Assists in the delivering of nursing care in a manner that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection and accidental contamination.
• Assists in delivering patient care in a manner which protects the patient from injury.
• Care is provided with an emphasis on continually improving quality, service, and cost effectiveness.
• Demonstrates competence in assisting with the performance of age-appropriate patient care that is specific to the unique physiological and anatomic aspects of life from the very young to the older adult.
• To handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during congenital heart surgery procedures, assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in an age-appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN).
• Prepares and assists with the preparation of the CV operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness on the patient and the surgical procedure as evidenced by the following, but not limited to:  knowledge of surgical pathology as related to the planned surgical intervention; knowledge of allergies (awareness of high risk groups for latex allergy); knowledge and preparation of special equipment i.e., implants, prostheses, instrumentation per procedure/preference.
• Applies knowledge of the surgical procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon, having supplies opened or read available in a cost-effective manner as observed by the circulating nurse/nurse manager. Seeks the assistance of the circulating nurse and references the preference card when unable to make a decision regarding opening versus readily available.
• Attends and participates in in-services and other continuing education opportunities to maintain professional development.
• Maintains correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments according to the established policy and procedure 100% the time as observed by the circulating nurse.
• Assists in the care and labeling of specimens 100% of the time as observed by the circulating nurse.
• Acknowledges the importance of patient safety by participating in the Universal Protocol.
• Performs patient care related duties

Cardiovascular Operating Room Certified Surgical Technologist Skills

• Knowledge of a wide variety of instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and surgical procedures particular to an operating room
• Ability to communicate effectively, be attentive, and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
• Ability to operate sterilizers, microscopes, and surgical equipment related to surgical specialties, i.e., fiberoptic equipment, electrocautery unit, suction machines, orthopedic tourniquets, air powered equipment, etc. is required.
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and commitment to meeting customer needs.

Specific qualifications for this CVOR CST nursing role include:

• Minimum 1 year of CST experience
• Level 4-5 Proficiency in scrubbing Cardiothoracic Cases
• Pedi / pediatric experience
• Minimum 1 year of CVOR experience

• Must have NBSTSA Certified
• Must have BLS certification

• Ability to work in a fast paced, high-risk environment

• Must meet Pulse Staffing’s hiring criteria

• Travel experience, a plus
